Resolve Scoops Platinum, Enviro & Silver at the 30th Annual Logistics Achiever Awards

30 October 2019

Resolve Solution Partners has won a Platinum Award at the 30th Annual Logistics Achiever Awards, held in Johannesburg this month. The award recognises the successful design, engineering and deployment of 239 medicine stores across Malawi.

These awards honour companies for excellence in logistics and supply chain management, and are the culmination of a stringent judging process during which nominees went through numerous rounds of submissions and site visits, as well as presentations to a judging panel comprising representatives of the various professional institutes, vocational societies and trade or industry associations involved in logistics and supply chain management in southern Africa.

“To deploy 239 medicine stores across the entire Malawi countryside within six months takes extraordinary logistics planning and coordination,” explains Arno Haigh, Managing Executive of Resolve Capacity, the division responsible for modular infrastructure design and deployment. “Resolve's project logistics capabilities, coupled with our modular infrastructure solutions and previously implemented projects in-country, were part of the recipe for success in dramatically increasing access to essential medicine for the poorest rural patients across Malawi.”

The logistics challenges for a project of this nature were immense. The key to success was in the synchronisation of Resolve’s twenty deployment teams, across three regions, each running a sequence of deployment waves, and the just-in-time arrival of trucks carrying the components for each modular unit. One of the major challenges that deployment included periods during Malawi’s rainy season, with bridges and roads regularly washed away, and trucks only being able to cover an average of 200 kilometres per day.

The project was completed within budget and within the planned time frame. The 239 units represent the equivalent storage capacity of a 14 200 m² warehouse with 3 560 pallet positions and 4 750 shelves. Half of the of the units (117) are stand-alone off-grid, powered by solar PV systems, and two of the units are situated on islands in Lake Malawi.

Resolve was also pleased to win both Silver and Enviro Awards for its partnership with Eazi Access. Resolve's managed services solution supported improvement in overall distribution performance, visibility, carrier management and distribution savings at Eazi Access, helping them deliver on their commitment to continuously improve service to their valued customers. The LAA Enviro Awards are aimed at rewarding organisations that take cognisance of the need for environmental and social stewardship, and proactively drive sustainability efforts. They are recognised for making genuine efforts to minimise the environmental impact of their supply chain processes.
